Hi folks,
Can you advise me on what is a good beginners outfit for Quebec CA. Buying in Canada. I’m thinking 5 or 6WT.
Thanks!
Paul

Re: Good beginners outfit
I think the kits from Echo would be a good starting point. I have an Echo Gecko rod, it is a nice rod but wouldn’t recommend it for a beginner unless it is for a child.
The Orvis Clearwater/Encounter kits seems to get good critique also.
In Sweden/Europe something based around Guideline Elevation.
Or just go for the Hot Torpedo. It’s where it will end up either way

For an inexpensive rod, have a look at Taylor's Dynamix. https://www.taylorflyfishing.com/dynamix

With some kits I know, I didn´t like the line, as it didn´t fit the rod.
One was eg. a very fast "4"weight rod / in real a 5 for me, coupeld with a true #4 line that fit much better on a softer real 4 weight rod or even on a 3 weight. And I had more examples like that, from Orvis eg. - the lines to light, especially for a beginner.
Cheers

I second the Taylor Dynamix! I have a 5 and 6 wt and love them. Thinking of adding a 4wt.
These things fish way above their price point, and their customer service is outstanding!

I can't comment on Quebec dealers. You could check out flymart.ca. Right now they have a TFO Pro 2 Package Rod and Reel $ 300. in their clearance section. I don't know if that is more than you want to spend. I have no affiliation with Flymart. I have ordered from them before. Then there is also Cabela's. I have never fished any of their rods.
