Ubercasters!

Lasse,

BTW… thanks for the term “ubercaster”! I like it and think it should go into the SL dictionary.

I have another one, maybe… how ‘bout “straight liner”?

Years ago, when we had a very active fly club, there was a group of local guides who would get together after a meeting for drinks. A common moan topic was how “good” trout fly anglers struggled with saltwater fishing… they struggled to throw distance, they struggled with casting in the wind, they false cast too much… etc.

So, a few of those guides went north to fish for trout, and they came back hanging their heads in disbelief. They could not catch the fish. I laughed at them and called ‘em “straight liners”. The idea of mends and slack line casts was beyond their imagination, or skill set, and far outside their supposed advanced fishing tactics.

That term “straight liner” popped back into my head recently after reading some of these SL threads. Distance comp, accuracy comp, blasting shooting heads… are all about straight lines!

And, it might surprise some, but these days straight line casts are as inefficient in many places in our local salt as they are on the trout stream.

Anyway…Happy Equinox y’all!

It's time to start fishing around here.

Other than on Oct 5, I’ll see you SL-ers out on the water. :D

Hi Gary

Übercaster is a very old SL name, think Stefan Siikavaraa "stesiik" on the board coined it in the middle zero's....

Straight liner, will have Bernd going there is no straight in flycasting.... :D

On my way home from fishing...

Cheers

I can’t remember. There is a reference here but I’m not sure it was the first. https://sexyloops.co.uk/archivedboard/v ... 47#p126847
Interestingly it’s a very similar discussion to one we have had this month. That’s 2008. :p

From there I ended up finding Stefan describing why AFFTA is the system to go with. Post 9 here: https://web.archive.org/web/20080303174 ... php?t=1028
