I use a (contrived) roll cast a lot when salmon fishing in small rivers where there is not the room behind for a full on D loop (fishing deep water / can’t wade, fishing off the bank, reeds at your feet, trees above / behind etc..

Breaking roll cast rules typically stated is commonplace as the cast is often cheated by delivering well over the anchor point to get the angle change.

Invaluable to me.
