I, and the rest of us on the lower SE coast, were not directly or terribly effected. The storm entered the lower SW coast, crossed the state diagonally, then exited from the upper NE coast.
So a lot of the state is a mess. Storm surge, wind damage, and flooding are the immediate concerns. Longer term ecological effects haven't even been considered yet.

BTW Noel's patent is expired this year, see:

There are some hardware products, that would work well with a smart phone and bluetooth. Maybe something for a winter project.
Acceleration is actually harder to measure than angular velocity, the reason is that you can't differentiate between the gravity vector and the user input. This requires more than accelerometers and sensor fusion algorithms.
