Borrowed from an OldFloridaFlyShop review of a new rod.

"Love is the only important metric in owning a fly rod. Especially high-end saltwater rods. Some load slightly deeper, some are a little stiffer, and some recoil slightly differently, but in the end, if you pick it up and love it that’s all that matters. A good angler can get it done with any rod."

oh, there was at least one really really bad rod on the market: The Greys GS2 , 7´, #2 , 4-piece.
I own it.
This rod was very hard to cast, because the 2. part from the tip had a huge weak spot.
Because of this the tip behaved like a dogs tail while casting and one had to really cast very special, to get line out.
But when I found the rod in a shop, I recognized its potential for a very nice short creek rod.
I had only to cut the weak spot off the 2. part.
First I cut the first 4 ´´ off, that would become the later spigot.
Then I cut back the 2. part further until I could fit the spigot.
Now the rod is about 9´´ shorter and has a harmonic action and cast a DT 2 wonderful.
The good thing with this rod is the well bending lower part, that gets bend nicely with the DT 2.
Ok, I also had to replace the heavy full metall reel seat ( its now on an #8 rod!!) for a cork spacer with sliding rings and I filed back the full wells grip to a nice slim cigar taper.
But it was worth doing all the work, as then there were no cheap blanks on the market for this kind of rod.
Either you had to pay a lot for a Sage blank or you got a cheap chinese blank labeled #2 but is in reallity a #3/4.

Cheers
Reinhard

You might like this Jarmo, although the grip was designed for King Kong:
